What is the Obsidian Fleet Integrated Fleet System (IFS)?
IFS is a full Fleet Management System for play-by-email RPG's. It includes a website CMS (content management system), based on Mambo Site Server 4.0.12, as well as a powerful backend that keeps track of the ships, COs, and players in the RPG. A variety of tools are available to help in the management of your RPG... but the best way to see what it's all about is to see it in action! Click on the link to the left to enter a fully functional demo version and see what IFS is capable of!

What are the requirements?
IFS runs on PHP and mySQL. It makes full use of database prefixes, so you only really need one database. It also allows you to split the tables between a few different databases, if that makes you feel safer. Apart from that, you only need a PBeM RPG...

Why should I use IFS?
You don't have to at all. It's available if you want to; however I developed it for Obsidian Fleet, and while we make good use of it, it's completely up to you whether you want to use it.

Is there any cost to use IFS? How is it licensed?
IFS is completely free. In fact, it is licensed under the GNU General Public License - so it's open-source software. This means the only condition for its use is that any changes you make to it must also remain under the GPL. For details on the GNU GPL, take a look at the GNU website.

Do I have to credit you if I use IFS?
It's a bit greedy to use this free software, which is the cumulative product of years of work, without giving any credit, isn't it? I (Frank Anon) and we (Obsidian Fleet) would very much appreciate credit where credit is due.

Is there any documentation?
See the doc/ folder after downloading and decompressing.

What happens if I find a bug in the software?
Use the Bug Report / Feature Request link to the left. I make no guarantees on this software, and I am not promising to provide support for it (basically, it's provided as-is), simply because I don't have that kind of time. I try to fix known bugs - but I can't guarantee it.

What if I've got an idea for a nifty new feature?
See above.

Can you help me set IFS up?
Can you create a new component for me?

No and no - I'm not made of time... while I'd love to help, I simply can't guarantee it. I've tried to make the setup instructions as simple as possible, and I've tried to include generic features that will be useful to everyone. Custom/personalized components take time...

Who made this? Do you have a life??
IFS was made by me, Frank Anon, for use in Obsidian Fleet. Due to popular demand, I've decided to release the code for public use, but I make no guarantees to support it. Originally, we used two seperate systems: Mambo Site Server and the Task Force Management System (thanks guys for the inspiration!); however we noticed that a number of things overlapped between the two. One thing lead to another, finally resulting in IFS. Tada!
And yes, I do have a life. Which is why it took years to write, and also why I do not guarantee support for the software. =)
